$75,000 Raised to Benefit the Uninsured
Bocce for Bucks II, the signature fundraising event for the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeast Michigan, generated $75,000 for the Oak Park based non-profit home health care organization. The grand finale concluded with the playoff match where long-time TV and radio personality Bob Allison parodied the TV show he once hosted, Bowling for Dollars.

The Palazzo di Bocce in Orion Township served as the venue for the April 2, 2006, event that attracted 150 friends and supporters of all ages. Palazzo owner and developer Anthony Battaglia also presented the organization with a $10,000 donation.

“With over one hundred years of history in helping individuals with compassion and understanding, the VNA is an organization that meets the requirements of those who receive donations from Palazzo di Bocce: an unimpeachable reputation, a focus on community, and service to families and people who, for reasons beyond their control, cannot help themselves,” said Battaglia.
The VNA of Southeast Michigan also received support from its presenting sponsor, the Debra Saber-Salisbury Foundation.

“The VNA has staying power, having provided service to the people of southeast Michigan for over one hundred years,” said David Salisbury “A great deal of care rendered by the VNA is uncompensated, over $1 million a year, which I believe is a much higher percentage of gross revenue than most providers. If it weren't for the VNA, these patients would not receive the care they need.”

Headquartered in Oak Park, Mich., Visiting Nurse Association of Southeast Michigan staff make more than 125,000 visits annual to patients in need. The organization serves residents of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, Monroe and Washtenaw counties with services including nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapy, home health aide, medical social work and hospice care.
